Earlston and Redpath lie in the beautiful Lauderdale valley on the Leader Water in the Scottish Borders. Earlston nestles at the foot of the White Hill with the imposing Black Hill beyond, in a rolling, rich agricultural landscape.

The river Leader rises in the Lammermuir Hills south of Edinburgh then flows south to join the Tweed at Leaderfoot. Between Redpath and Earlston, it is bordered by river cliffs and ancient woodland making for an attractive and interesting setting. Along the river's entire length there are several road and footbridge crossings, the final one being a road bridge on the B6360 close to its confluence with the Tweed.
