- Remembering Jack - 2021

5_edited_edited.jpg

In October 2020 our former Chairman and Co-founder John Aitchison Jones, known to all as Jack, died peacefully at home.

He, with Ian Gibb, co-founded Earlston Paths Group and Jack served as Chairman between 2005 and 2015.

The two of them shared a common interest in walking that ignited the idea of forming a Paths Group to develop walking routes in the local area.

Jack always jokingly blamed Ian for getting him involved and used that line in many of the slide show presentations they did together for local organisations.

The Paths Group paid tribute to Jack in March 2021 by unveiling a red cedar chainsaw carving on Leader Water Path.

The design reflects Jack's love of walking and was created by Sam Bowsher Chainsaw Carving from a single piece of wood.

Irene Jones and Ian Gibb christened the carving with some Old Jock ale - Jack's favourite. He'd have hated the waste!
