MILL MEADOW

Some additional information shared by A & R Brownlie Ltd with the Paths Group.

For the last two years, and before then, Mill Meadow Field has been planted with

spring barley but is now in need of a break crop to assist with soil quality

management, maintaining productivity and value of the field. To support this aim, it

has been planted with winter oil seed rape.

Please be aware the rape is sown by a minimum tillage process so there’s no actual

ploughing, however this leaves the field sown and rolled, initially looking similar to

rough stubble.

Walking across the field after it’s been sown isn’t good for the young plants getting

established. Typically, they should be emerging in the first 10 days.

The field will look green by week 3 or 4 but again won’t look like a field of cereals

and to the untrained eye may look like weeds, but should be avoided.

The signage to say the field has been sown is being put in place at various points,

asking people not to walk across the field to avoid damaging the young crop getting

established and this differs from earlier years when the stubble was accessible to

walk across for longer.

We hope everyone will respect the change of use and landowners wishes.

Please keep to the Mill Meadow surfaced path. Thank you.
