CELEBRATION DAY
Paths Group members had a superb day last Friday, meeting and chatting with lots of people who'd come along to The Green so see our new, bespoke seat for the top of the Black Hill and our information panel going on the lower slopes. The day was planned so that many of the people who were no longer able to climb the hill had the opportunity to look it over and test it out before the seat moves to its final home. Developed from our idea, created by Beltane Studios in Peebles

FRIDAY'S THE BIG DAY
It can’t be right but YES! Last time we had an event on The Green, launching the updated Walks Around Earlston, it was torrential but Friday is wall to wall sunshine and warm. Bring sunscreen and ice cream - share with us….

ANNIVERSARY PROJECT
At last, our project celebrating twenty years of Earlston Paths Group is almost complete! It's incredible to think we've been on the go since 2005 and still working hard, just more slowly. The seat will be installed near the trig point on the top of the Black Hill and our information panel placed just off the Redpath Road. Before that happens, we'd like to invite everyone to come along on the 24th to see both at The Green in Earlston. Nice and flat, no boots or climb require

REMEMBER STORM ARWEN?
Remember Storm Arwen? The enormous tree that fell on Leader Water Path between the community woodland and boatpool? You either had to mountain climb up the banking and round the root or (if agile) climb over the trunk. Its finally gone! A seriously big thank you to Christopher Kennedy and his friend who, after a chance conversation with Ian, took the opportunity to remove it and clear the path. A tricky job involving cutting the tree into sections and using a hand winch to p

TENDER LOVING CARE
Two Leader Water Path seats have recently needed major TLC. They'd only been there since the path was opened - in 2010!!!!! The one beside the boat pool was propped up on a couple of stones: the area was badly eroded after so long and so many pairs of feet. Ian and Tom constructed a new platform, repositioning the seat which means less chance of it or anyone falling in the river! The seat below Borders Forest Trust community woodland, beside the footbridge, was terminal desp

LEADER WATER DIVERSION
Forestry work on the Leader Water Path, south of the community woodland, is finished for the next few months and the Borders Forest Trust diversion is no longer in place. Unfortunately, a section at the walled garden is dangerous because of fallen masonry. A short diversion, well signposted in both directions, has been put in place by Earlston Paths Group . It uses a lower section of path to avoid any potential danger and will remain live until the wall is repaired. There's

Border Chainsaw and Lawnmower Services
Thank you once again to our friends at Border Chainsaw & Lawnmower Services who have fully serviced our two STIHL brush cutters free of charge, an important contribution to our Earlston community and the volunteers of the Earlston Paths Group. It means we're yet again good to go for another grass cutting season and the GRUMPS have no excuse not to get out and about strimming on the paths. Paths maintenance not forgotten as well! We're delighted to celebrate this continuing

Back To The Old Routines
Now leaves are off the trees, the dream team(?) have started out once again and are back in harness. Nothing like walking and carrying tools back to the village from Speedy's to finish you off! Afternoon coffee from the flask and chocolate doesn't touch the sides. 2/3 of the path blown and cleared, edges scraped back. Saturday was the better day - always get a Saturday bun from M and S, paid for by the Mrs!
